1st Brigade VRC, , MD, William Marlow, greycloake@juno.com
The 1st Brigade VRC (Veteran Reserve Corps) is a unit reenacting the men who served firstly in the "Invalid Corps" in Apr 1863 (renamed the "Veteran Reserve Corps" in 1864) through 1866. These men, former soliders who were no longer fit for field service due to illness, injury, etc., served in hospitals, prisons, as guards, etc. Despite their "limited" abilities, they managed to see action at such places as Fort DeRussey and Fort Stevens. We honor the memory of their service to our nation during the Civil War by setting up a period encampment and sharing what we have learned about these valiant men at Fort Stevens and other community events.
