One of the most common questions I get is someone asking how they can find a reenacting group near Lower Podunk County or whatever.

First of all, reenactors in a particular unit/group/company often do not live near each other.  So it isn't essential that you join a reenacting unit near you physically.
Sometimes people want to do impressions of ancestors but the particular reenacting unit has most of its members in, say NY.  However, that doesn't mean the NY based unit wouldn't welcome someone from Florida or Arkansas, etc..   Ask.  It can't hurt.

Second, I don't know where Lower Podunk County is, so even if I had the time to search our unit listing for a company near there, I couldn't.  But you can since you know what State that county is in.

The best thing to do is search our Units Listing (see link top left) for the State you're in.  Now, our search engine is not really sophisticated so here are some tips.  If you want to find a Connecticut based group, I'd spell out Connecticut.  Or if you want to search by the 2 digit State abbreviation, put a space before the letters and a comma after.
Example:  " GA,"    not  "GA"

Otherwise, your results will include every unit that has the word "galvanized" or "garment" or anything with "ga" in a word.

Have fun!
