(Note: Attendance by invitation only this year, the 2010 is primarily for the benefit of students). 8th Annual Hancock Heritage Days will again happen just east of Findlay, Ohio very near the original training location called Camp Vance. The 21st and 57th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiments were formed & trained here. This is a Living History and Reenactment that has battles both days. Soldiers, Cannons, Military Ball, Living History, Tactical, Food, Live Music and much more. The location of this reenactment has lots of wonderful walking trails along the Blanchard River that have the appearance of roads from the timeframe. Truly a beautiful park! This will inevitably be the best event so far! Friday will also host a school day program with hundreds of local children. We invite you to join us for the 2nd annual Battle of Fort Crawford, hosted by the 26th Louisiana Infantry, Co G, and Lane's Battery. All re-enactors and members of the public are welcome to attend. We have lots of space, trees, and plenty of amenities for reenactors, including water, hay, wood, and extra gunpowder. Events include a School Day with demonstrations and exhibits, chili cookoff, three battles, Western Days parade, dance, and church service. 21st annual anniversary of Blackford County Civil War Days and 15th annual Educational Day. CAVALRY $30 powder bounty to mounted cavalry (only). Current Cogging required. INFANTRY Powder ration to the first 200 arriving at the event. ARTILLERY $125 powder bounty for full scale (57" wheels and full length tube), or $100 powder bounty for full scale mountain howitzers (all guns must be approved by the overall artillery safety commander). Ongoing skirmish up to battle both days, tactical Sunday morning, military ball, payroll, artillery night firing, demonstrations, parlor games, ladies tea and fashion show. $50 drawing each day for one CS & US soldier. Hay, straw, wood, plus Saturday evening meal provided. Registration free for all persons except sutlers. Sutler fee - $25.00 (donated to the Blackford County Monument Fund). No modern facilities or electrical hook-ups on site. Campground within four miles. Host units are 49th Ind. Vol. Inf., Co. F and 50th Vir. Inf., Co. D. We are in the planning stages for the 2010 re-enactment. The attack on the fort will always be the centerpiece of the re-enactment. Other actions that took place during the siege of Knoxville are being explored to determine their practicality and suitability for our site.

You may also e-mail your abstract to BVVH@verizon.net Please submit tentative title as soon as possible and abstracts NLT October 1, 2010. Any subject relating to the medical or surgical aspects of the American Civil War era [1840-1880], treatment of the sick and wounded, or relating to any of the medical personalities of the era is suitable for presentation. We would also be interested in papers that would compare medicine in the Civil War with that of the Mexican War, Indian Wars or modern day treatment. Presentations, if selected, shall be limited to 45 minutes, followed by a 5 minute question and answer period. Abstracts must be typed, single-spaced and not to exceed two typewritten pages in length. Abstracts should embody not merely a statement of a research question, but findings and conclusions sufficient to allow assessment by a selection committee. ..more info on website.
Battle of Camp Wildcat

149th Anniversary of the Battle of Camp Wildcat, London, Kentucky, sponsored by the Laurel Home Guard. The three-day event begins with a school day Friday. As many reenactors as possible are encouraged to come early and help share living history with the 800-1,400 children who usually attend. We would also like demonstrations of period crafts, impersonations, and enough people for a small skirmish for the students. Dinner and hayride provided for helping with School Day. Saturday and Sunday feature a full battle reenactment each day. Other events include historical speakers on Saturday and Sunday, memorial service, demonstrations, civilian social, period church service, dance, and more. Dinner served to reenactors Saturday night. Sutler space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Sutler fee is $30. Food vendors allowed by invitation only. Military reenactors, due to the difficulty in obtaining powder, you must pre-register in order to be assured of powder. Reenactor pre-registration deadline is Sept. 1, 2009. Fee is $5 per person ($10 per family in same household) paid before Oct. 1; after Oct. 1 (including walk-ons) fee is $8 per person. Union reenactors needed. Make checks payable to Laurel Home Guard. Each November, The Re-enactment of The Battle of Secessionville is the featured centerpiece of Living History Weekend at Boone Hall Plantation. Hundreds of re-enactors relive that day that occurred 145 years ago June 16, 1862 when Confederate soldiers at Fort Lamar on James Island kept Charleston from being seized by Union forces.
